Welcome to the Project!

Greetings, friends. This will be the hub for our discussion in EDU 740. I'd like to take this opportunity to say what an honor and a privilege is it to b... awww, who am I kidding? I got stuck running this little show, so now you've got to put up with my sardonic humor between classes! For each section, remember that we need symptoms, a diagnosis, and suggested treatments. The diagnosis should pretty much be the title of the thread, but feel free to create sub-categories or spin-off questions if the mood hits you. The symptoms and treatments will be the bulk of the project.

Now get out there and start blogging!

Discipline

Having trouble keeping those kids in line? Talk about it here! Now... where's a nun with a ruler when you need one...

  1. Scenario: A 5th grade student (who has a BIP) brings a knife to school. He and another student admit to planning to harm or even kill another student in the school, and also admit to giving the knife another student so she could cut herself (which she did). All three students were put up for expulsion and all three returned to school even more apathetic and resistant to authority than ever. With 8 weeks of school left, what should be done?

  2. Leak it to the media. Send an anonymous tip. Let them know how weapons are really handled in our district. The community outrage could change the mind of the expulsion team. Pressure from the outside hurts how we look. It's all in the way things look to the county and state, not how things truly are. Detectives might be good to talk to as well. Have a cop come for a visit to explain how life is in prisons.

  3. You know the worse part? Many of the teachers in the school will not even know this happened. This has been a problem in schools everywhere. They are trying to protect the student who brought the weapon's privacy. What about the teachers need to protect the rest of the students they teach?

  4. Amen, Meg! I get so sick of walking on eggshells in order to protect a student in cases such as this. We have had similar incidents at my school, and the administrators try to keep everyone hush hush, when we really need to discuss these matters openly.

  5. I have found that there have been times where I would learn what is going on at school from WIS, WLTX, or neighbors. I look really stupid when someone asks me about something that happened at WKHS and I don't know anything about it. Administrators need to let us know what is going on.
